Study Trip 鈥 6th Grade
Forty-four 6th Grade pupils went on their Study Trip to Trujillo and Chiclayo, having four days full of learning, visits, fun and entertainment. In Trujillo, they went to the Moche Valley, visiting the 鈥淗uaca de la Luna鈥. They also visited the city centre, including the 鈥淧laza de Armas鈥 and the 鈥淚glesia de la Merced鈥. 鈥淐han Chan鈥 was the next stop, where they could appreciate the architecture and social hierarchy of the Chim煤 culture. In the afternoon, they found out why Trujillo is called the city of the Marinera, with a wonderful open-air show of 鈥渃aballos de paso鈥 and dancers of the 鈥渕arinera norte帽a鈥. Later on, they were able to meet local fishermen in person on Huanchaco beach, and see a typical fishing boat (caballito de totora) being put together in front of them , before interviewing them as part of their research. On the way to Chiclayo, they stopped at the 鈥淐omplejo Arqueol贸gico 鈥楨l Brujo鈥欌, where they saw the 鈥淪e帽ora de Cao鈥. Pacasmayo offered a lunch stop before continuing on to Chiclayo. The following day, as a way of ending on a 鈥渉igh鈥 note, they visited the Valley of the Pyramids, in T煤cume, the Museum of the 鈥淪e帽or de Sip谩n鈥 and the 鈥淪an Roque鈥 factory, before invading Chiclayo airport, to take the return flight to Lima. It was an amazing experience that will remain in the mind and hearts of the teachers, security staff and pupils forever. The pupils were worthy ambassadors of Hiram Bingham School, showing that the IB Learner Profile is not just theory, but is also put into practice.

On Friday 20th of May, 6th to 8th Grade enjoyed the visit of Priscilla Howe, a renowned storyteller in English teaching circles. She regaled us with stories as diverse as ghost stories, humorous stories and stories with a moral, and involving puppets, especially for the younger ones, and audience participation to captivate the attention of those assisting in a dynamic way. The students even went away with some stories to tell others, including the well-loved story of the 鈥淕host With The One Black Eye鈥, complete with the characters, voices and actions. We look forward to next year鈥檚 story teller to expose our students once more to the world of storytelling.

SECOND CAS TRIP TO MACAS
Grade 11 students concluded the last part of their CAS Project 2011 in very high spirits and it was because a very ambitious goal was successfully achieved after two days of hard work and dedication. Wooden games for the little children in Macas nursery section were assembled, six computers were installed at the school library and a couple of shelves were put together, the primary games were given a new coat of paint and the walls of the prefabricated PE shed at the entrance of school were rubbed with sandpaper, cleaned and artistically decorated. Well done, Grade 11! It鈥檚 amazing all we can do whenever we set our minds to it!

This term Grade 8 Alpha hosted the ladies from the Surco Senior Citizens programme (Programa del Adulto Mayor de Surco) as part of their CAS project. This involved bringing some food to offer and it was very nice to see that most of the desserts were homemade by our students.

On Saturday 21st May ten students from Hiram Bingham School went to Cambridge school to play mini games, we weren鈥檛 the only school there. We met other students from Cambridge, Newton, Peruano Britanico and Markham.
On Fun day they separated us by color they mixed the students into colors yellow, blue, green and red. Where we did races, we played the egg and spoon, bounced balls, made a tower, dressed a student, we danced (which was awesome!), we sang, and they gave us questions.
On the day, we made new friends it was great fun, that鈥檚 why they call it FUN DAY!

Our Senior School students from Grades 6 to 11 enthusiastically started the academic year 2011 in company of their friends and teachers. Their very first outing, which certainly strengthened friendship bonds and contributed to get them started in high spirits, was YCAMP. During the couple of days that they spent at this camping site in the south of Lima, they participated in a variety of group activities which promoted good attitudes such as reflective behaviour, positive leadership, respect and enthusiasm.
